Max Holloway - General Profile
Max Holloway, nicknamed "Blessed", is an American mixed martial arts fighter from Waianae, Hawaii.
Born on December 4, 1991, Holloway is renowned for his incredible cardio, impressive punch volume and warrior spirit in the ring.
Coming from a difficult background, he found an escape at an early age in combat sports and became one of the emblematic faces of Hawaiian MMA.
MMA career
Holloway began his professional MMA career in 2010.
He joined the UFC in 2012, aged just 20, becoming one of the youngest fighters to join the organization at the time.
After an early career marked by a few losses to future champions like Conor McGregor, he strung together a series of spectacular victories that propelled him to the top of the featherweight division.
In 2017, he became UFC featherweight champion by defeating José Aldo by TKO at UFC 212, then defeated him again in the rematch a few months later.
Holloway successfully defended his title against the likes of Brian Ortega and Frankie Edgar,
eventually losing his belt to Alexander Volkanovski in 2019, then narrowly failing in the rematch in 2020 in an extremely close fight.
Despite these setbacks, he continued to impress with dominant performances, most notably against Calvin Kattar, where he broke records for significant strikes.
In April 2024, Holloway became interim lightweight champion, defeating Justin Gaethje by KO thanks to a spectacular “BMF moment” in the final seconds of the fight, and
is now in contention to unify the UFC lightweight title.
Personal life
Max is very proud of his Hawaiian roots and embodies the "Aloha" spirit in and out of the cage.
He has a son, Rush, who is very much a part of his life and often seen at his side at UFC events.
Holloway is appreciated for his humility and respectful attitude towards his opponents, combined with a spectacular fighting style that makes him a fan favorite.
Fighting style
Holloway is famous for his frantic pace and impressive striking volume.
He excels in the art of racking up damage on his opponents, thanks to his precision, inexhaustible cardio and tactical intelligence.
His fluid footwork and ability to absorb punches make him a formidable fighter over the duration of fights.
Holloway is also known for his ability to throw punches, and for his ability to get the better of his opponents.
Recent news
With his impressive victory over Gaethje, Holloway has repositioned himself as one of the best fighters in any category.
He's now on course to potentially become a two-time UFC champion if he can win the lightweight division.
Outside the cage, Max continues to be an inspirational figure for the younger generation in Hawaii and remains active on social networks, sharing moments with his son and training team, as well as speaking out in support of mental health and underprivileged communities.
