Pride Fighting Championships (Pride FC) Pride Fighting Championships (PRIDE) was a legendary Japanese mixed martial arts (MMA) organization founded in 1997 that quickly became one of the most influential and popular MMA promotions in the world. Based in Tokyo and operated by Dream Stage Entertainment, Pride held over 60 major events, broadcasting to around 40 countries and drawing massive crowds — including a then-record live audience of over 70,000 fans at its 2002 Shockwave/Dynamite show. Its events featured some of the sport’s biggest stars and most iconic fights, blending intense competition with grand, spectacle-style presentation.
Despite its success, PRIDE’s run ended in 2007 when it was acquired by Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC, and its Japanese operations were shut down shortly after. Although the brand ceased promoting new events, Pride’s legacy lives on through the careers of its fighters and its lasting impact on the global MMA landscape.
