Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) is a mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion based in South Africa, founded in 2009 by brothers Cairo, Silas, and Calvin Howarth. It has grown into the largest MMA organization in Africa, producing around 10 live events per year and showcasing a roster of over a hundred fighters from across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and beyond. EFC events take place in major South African cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban and are broadcast in over 120 countries, increasing the promotion’s international visibility.
EFC has become known for its high-quality production and competitive fight cards that blend local talent with international athletes, helping many fighters build their careers and sometimes move on to larger global stages like the UFC. In recent years, EFC has also expanded its reach through partnerships and streaming deals, making its fights more accessible globally and continuing to elevate Africa’s presence on the MMA world stage.
